Overall investment in Tinggi exceeded 10 million US dollars .

Based on technology developed at the Nanyang Technological University, I founded a company in 2001, initially named “Nitride Semiconductors Private Limited” in Singapore in 2001 with angel investor investments. The name was later on changed to Tinggi.

Between 2001 and 2003, I served as a consultant to this company, in charge of hiring key staff and technology development.

As the technology development advanced, we attracted venture capital and Singapore government investments. At the request of investors, I left the university to devote full-time to  Tinggi Technologies Private Limited.

We developed core technologies for making power GaN devices with sapphire substrate removed without dicing. This technology was still regarded as one of the best device technologies for power GaN LEDs in the world 10 years later.

We sold the company to Tshinghua Tong Fang, a major commercial arm of  Tsinghua University of China, which is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange under the code of 600100.

 

I learned a lot of lessons from founding and running Tinggi.
